Training on the rearing and management of stingless bees at Kerela for beekeepers of the beekeeping cluster of Chigitchakgre Village, West Garo Hills.

20 beekeepers of the beekeeping cluster of Chigitchakgre Village, West Garo Hills, recently visited Kerala from the 13th – 20th June, 2023 to learn about the rearing and management of stingless bees (Tetragonula spp). Tetragonula is a tiny stingless bee found in the Garo Hills and in the warmers parts of the State. The honey produced by these bees is said to be of medicinal value and is much sought after. The beekeepers visited the following bee farms in Kerala: 1. Madhusree Farm, Alakode, Kannur District where the beekeepers got hands on training on how to make stingless bee boxes and in the management of the bees. 2. Horticorp, Mavelikkara, Alappuzha District where the beekeepers visited farms specializing in the value addition of honey into various products and where they were felicitated by the local MLA Mr. M.S. Arun Kumar The visit was sponsored by the Meghalaya Farmers’ (Empowerment) Commission with the mobilization and support of the ATMA, West Garo Hills district
