Training on Spices at Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode

12 officers of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare were deputed for a 5 day training organized and jointly sponsored by the Meghalaya Farmers (Empowerment) Commission and the ICAR Indian Institute of Spices Research, Kozhikode from the 16th to 20th October 2023. The officers were exposed and trained in the latest management practices and propagation techniques of black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and Long Pepper. This training is highly relevant to Meghalaya in view of the state's climate and tremendous income generating potential of tree and seed spice crops for our farmers. A new addition to the bouquet of crops for Meghalaya is bush pepper, recently introduced by the Commission, which has the potential to produce year round fruits from a compact space.
