Pesticides cause Cancers: Wake up, Meghalaya!

Since 2014 the State’s Agriculture Department has steadfastly upheld the policy to stop subsidising chemical fertilisers and pesticides because of the dangers posed by the chemicals to animal and human health. This decision has reduced the State’s chemical fertiliser consumption by 56.69% without impacting our food security. It has also gradually led to increased demand and usage of bio-fertilisers opening up opportunities for the local youth to set up bio-product manufacturing units. By taking into consideration the significant risk of cancer exposure caused by the use of chemical pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides in crop production, Meghalaya must go for a complete ban on the sale and use of these chemical products.
