The launch of the exclusive Mission Lakadong in 2018 has significantly increased the number of Lakadong farmers from 1000 to 7290 and the production of Lakadong turmeric by an additional 6368 metric tonnes. As the mission keeps progressing, it is also high-time to improve value addition of Lakadong Turmeric by establishing curcumin extraction units in Meghalaya. Lakadong's curcumin extract can fetch up to ₹6400 per kg compared to Turmeric slices that fetch ₹150 per kg.
