In continuation of the Pilot Project initiated and funded by Meghalaya Farmers' (Empowerment) Commission in 2022, for Area Expansion of Long Pepper Cultivation and being implemented by the District and Local Research Station & laboratories (DLRSL), Shillong together with the office of the District Horticulture Officers, a field training on nursery management practices and rapid multiplication technique of Viswam variety of Long Pepper was conducted by the DLRSL on 7th July 2023 in the Ginger Development Station, Umsning, Ri Bhoi District. With national and international demand growing for the spice, this initiative is aimed at encouraging farmers to adopt commercial cultivation of Long Pepper and tap into this emerging market.
